Why Volunteer?

Our programs depend on dedicated volunteers. Whether you have a few hours a week or can commit to a regular schedule, your time and talents help older adults and individuals with disabilities live with dignity and connection.

Friendly Visitor Program

Visit residents in long-term care facilities on a weekly basis. Build relationships, provide companionship, and be a caring presence for seniors who may have limited contact with the outside world.

  • Weekly visits to assigned facility
  • Training provided
  • Make observations and assist with minor concerns
  • Participate in resident and family council meetings

Requirements: Age 18+, valid driver’s license, clean background check, ability to maintain confidentiality.

Medicare Counselor (I-CARE)

Become a certified volunteer counselor and help seniors navigate Medicare, Medigap, prescription drug plans, and cost-saving programs. Comprehensive training is provided.

  • Free, unbiased counseling
  • Help beneficiaries save money and avoid scams
  • Work one-on-one or in group settings
  • Annual recertification

Requirements: Complete SHIP/I-CARE training, pass background check, commit to ongoing education.

Senior Companion & Foster Grandparent

Serve as a companion to homebound seniors or mentor children in schools and daycare centers through national service programs. Stipends may be available for qualifying volunteers.

  • Mentor and tutor children
  • Build intergenerational connections

Ombudsman Volunteer

Assist the Long-Term Care Ombudsman in visiting facilities, identifying concerns, and advocating for resident rights. This role requires specialized training and a strong commitment to resident advocacy.

  • Visit assigned facilities regularly
  • Interview residents and document concerns
  • Work under ombudsman supervision
  • Confidentiality and ethics training required

Nutrition & Meal Delivery

Help prepare and deliver meals to homebound seniors or assist at congregate dining sites. A quick wellness check during meal delivery can be a lifeline for isolated older adults.

  • Flexible schedules available

General & Administrative Support

Assist with office tasks, event coordination, outreach, and special projects. Perfect for students, retirees, and professionals who want to contribute behind the scenes.

  • Phone and reception support
  • Data entry and filing
  • Event setup and outreach
  • Translating materials (Spanish speakers needed)
