Senior Nutrition & Centers
Good nutrition and social connection for seniors across the Midlands.
About Our Nutrition Programs
Proper nutrition is essential for healthy aging, but many seniors struggle with cooking, shopping, or eating alone. Our senior nutrition programs ensure that older adults in Fairfield, Lexington, Newberry, and Richland Counties have access to healthy meals and opportunities for social engagement.
Home-Delivered Meals
For homebound seniors who are unable to prepare their own meals, our Home-Delivered Meals program (also known as Meals on Wheels in some communities) provides nutritious, dietitian-approved meals delivered directly to the home.
Who qualifies:
- Individuals aged 60 and older who are homebound due to illness, disability, or transportation barriers
- The spouse of a homebound older adult, regardless of age
- Disabled dependents living with an eligible older adult
What to expect:
- Meals delivered typically 5 days per week ( schedules vary by county)
- nutritionally balanced meals designed for older adults
- Dietary accommodations when possible (diabetic-friendly, low-sodium, etc.)
- A daily wellness check from the delivery volunteer
Congregate Meals & Senior Centers
Senior centers across the Midlands offer congregate dining in a friendly, social setting. These meals are more than just food — they are an opportunity to build friendships, stay active, and remain connected to the community.
What senior centers offer:
- Hot, nutritious lunches on weekdays
- Health and wellness programs
- Exercise and fitness classes
- Educational workshops
- Social activities and outings
- Volunteer opportunities
There is no cost for the meal, though voluntary contributions are welcome and help sustain the program.
Nutrition Education & Counseling
Our programs include nutrition education designed specifically for older adults. Topics include:
- Managing chronic conditions through diet (diabetes, hypertension, heart disease)
- Healthy cooking on a budget
- Food safety for seniors

- Supplement guidance
